In June of 2008, I went to India for business. I was there for 3 weeks, and took some time to go sightseeing. While most of the places I wanted to photograph didn't allow it (active temples, etc.) I did get some photos, mostly of sights in and around Mysore, which is a couple of hours drive from Bangalore.
This photo is really about Chamandi Temple, which is supposed to be the building up on the hill. More of that later.
Thes are bronze casts of big cats, and they were made and displayed in identical, mirror-image pairs in a couple of places thru the castle and grounds. One courtyard had 4 pairs guarding the stairs on each side of courtyard. There were two pairs out front where this was taken. The cat in the photo of me is directly behind me, though this mirror image is actually off to the left of this photos way at the other end of the parade ground.
This was built in the 1920's by the Maharajah of Mysore, who lived in Mysore palace, for his second wife. My driver called this "The Second Wife's Palace".
I saw this from a ways out, before we got up here, and I thought it was a government building. Doesn't it look sorta like the US capitol building?
British architects again.
I like the deep green walls in the arcades.
I had a hard time getting the gold to come out, and never really got it the way I wanted it without spending more time than it was worth in photoshop.
This marble building was in my humble opinion the most beautiful I saw in India. The photos don't do it justice do to the crappy light this day.
I walked up those stairs to look around inside and 4 guys came down and greeted me and asked where my luggage was.
Bollywood. India has a movie industry second to none. And it was here shooting some movie this day. But it was also raining so the driver didn't want to go over and ask what the name of the movie was.
Just your average city-from-the-nearby-mountain shot. But just left of center, above the branch, is the Mysore Palace. It didn't look this big when I was there.
