In June of 2008, I went to India for business. I was there for 3 weeks, and took some time to go sightseeing. While most of the places I wanted to photograph didn't allow it (active temples, etc.) I did get some photos, mostly of sights in and around Mysore, which is a couple of hours drive from Bangalore.
One of my favorite shots of Gumbaz.
Here you can see the side building, and the towers that give this place a sorta Taj Mahal sorta feel. I don't remember what the side buildings are for.
You can't go up the stairs with your shoes on. The dude standing by the wall will watch them for you, while you go up and wander around. And then he'll let you put your shoes on, while he demands money. I have him 10 rupees.
The tombs of Tipu's family members. Personal retainers and advisors get buried in the grass out front and aound the place.
A couple of shots attempting to show the incredible detail of the architecture.
They just don't do work like this any more. Pity.
Detail of the towers and side buildings.
Closeup of the front of the mosque.
A look back towards the gate of the Gumbaz.
I kept this in because it's one of the few photos that show how colorful Indians are. The dresses of the women on the left are typical of the vibrancy of clothing all over India.
Gonna have to cop out on this one. I have no idea what this is called. It is a hindu temple in the middle of a fort Tipu used. The idols of the god were all laying down and resting, thus "Sleeping God".
My driver accompanied me in to this one, and did all the hindu rites, and explained a lot of it, as best he could in what little english he knew.
